‘She wasn’t being a real mom’
The woman accused of fatally stabbing a Staten Island mom during a massive brawl outside a housing project proclaimed her innocence on a podcast before turning herself in â telling the host the victim âwasnât being a real mom.â
Jasmin Thompson, 25, surrendered to cops in the cityâs 120th Precinct on Monday morning for allegedly knifing Jennira Roundtree, 43, during a fight in front of the victimâs home in the NYCHAâs West Brighton Houses on Henderson Avenue near Alaska Street.
Authorities have charged her with second-degree murder for the Jan. 7 killing, which sources said was prompted by a social media beef.
But Thompson, who initially fled the state, told Elliott Carterr of LFTG Radio that she only grabbed the bloody knife after Roundtree had been mortally wounded.
âThe momâs already on the floor. So how yâall saying I did it?â she asked Carterr, as she narrated a video of the clash. âI picked it up. I was scared for my life.â
Sources have said Roundtree only entered the fray to defend her young daughter â but she quickly became a target herself.
Mario Gallucci, Thompsonâs celebrity attorney, said thatâs ânot even close to the truth.â
âNobody deserves to die, but Ms. Roundtree certainly didnât come into this with clean hands,â Gallucci told The Post, comparing the squabble to a âmodern-day Hatfields and McCoys.â
âRoundtree and a group of her followers, weâll say, had attacked Ms. Thompsonâs sister earlier in the day and jumped another one of her friends earlier in the day,â he said.
âShe started the altercation, continued the altercation and my client is looking at using justification as a defense.â
But a 30-year-old neighbor told The Daily News that a group of girls picked a fight with Roundtreeâs pre-teen daughter â and even though Roundtreeâs friends called the girlâs older sister for help, her mom stepped in first.
The neighbor couldnât see much more âscaffolding blocked her view, she said â but she saw cops moving Roundtree away when she ran downstairs.
âThe police took her,â she said. âWhen they carried her, I saw she had a lot of blood. I heard her say, âI canât breathe!â Thatâs the only thing she said.â
She died later at Richmond University Medical Center.
Thompson â who cops and sources said stuck Roundtree several times in the chest during the 20-person melee â said on the podcast that Roundtree âwasnât being a mom, a real momâ with her conduct.
âIâm a mom,â she added. âIâm gonna say, hey, what happened? What happened with my kids? Iâm not straight springing golf sticks at peopleâs kids.â
But Thompson, who has a lengthy rap sheet that includes six prior arrests and several assaults, denied that she murdered the woman.
âIâm not a killer,â she said.
âI would never want to kill nobody. Iâm not a killer. I have kids too. That lady was a mom. She got four kids. Yeah, nothing was planned, nothing was premeditated.â
