Sheriff identifies 67-year-old man who died after UTV went into Lake Winnebago
(WFRV) – Authorities in Fond du Lac County provided an update on the incident where a man died after going into Lake Winnebago on a UTV.
According to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, the 67-year-old man from Taycheedah who died on February 1 was Clay Creighton. The incident happened on February 1 around 12:25 p.m.
Authorities got a call saying that two people fell into open water on Lake Winnebago.
The release says the two men were in the water for about 20 minutes before people noticed them. Eventually, the two men were taken off the ice and sent to a hospital.

The passenger was pronounced dead at the hospital while the driver was treated for hypothermic-related symptoms. Authorities say the two men were wearing their seatbelts but did not have helmets or flotation devices.
Unfamiliarity with where the active crack in the ice was, appeared to be a factor in the crash according to officials. The crack was reportedly marked with downed Christmas trees.
No additional information was released.
