‘The Bachelor’ Season 29, Episode 3 Recap: Who Went Home? And Who Got A One-On-One Date?
We’re only three episodes into The Bachelor Season 29, but 31-year-old Grant Ellis is already on track to become one of the dreamiest leading men in franchise history.
The Bachelor Season 29, Week 3 saw Grant and his 14 remaining women go on some interesting dates, encounter their fair share of special guests, and overcome early setbacks. The original plan was for Grant to go on two one-on-one dates and one big group date, but after one of his women made an unexpected departure from the show, we witnessed a rare three-on-one date that turned into a one-on-one dinner. Chaos!
Wondering how Grant Ellis’ one-on-one dates went? Curious who snagged Grant’s group date roses? Who was at the center of Episode 3’s drama? Who left the show early? And who else went home during The Bachelor Week 3? We’ve got you covered.
Decider’s The Bachelor Season 29, Episode 3 recap breaks down all the highs, lows, feuds, celeb guests, and romance in the February 10 episode.
The Bachelor Group Date 1 Recap: Looking For A Man In Finance
Grant might not have a trust fund or blue eyes, but he’s still a 6’5 (well, 6’4) man in finance, so naturally, producers planned a finance-themed date. (First a mall date, now this?! The rest of the season better step up the dates for our boy! He deserves better!)
Natalie, Bailey, Alexe, Alli Jo, Chloie, Sarafiena, Dina, Parisa, Rose, Zoe, Litia, and Juliana gathered for a “girl math” test given by Shark Tank star/KIND founder Daniel Lubetzky and comedian Hannah Berner. After everyone changed into their power suits, Daniel and Hannah explained that the women would earn “Grant Bucks” (like Schrute Bucks, but for The Bachelor) throughout the day, and the person with the most could spend them on exciting surprises at the afterparty. Questions included everything from “How much do you want Grant to spend on a wedding ring?” to “Most risqué purchase ever?” (Yes, someone said a butt plug!) Bailey quickly learned that Hannah responded well to the funniest answers, so she gamed the system a bit and left the richest with 12,400 GBs.
Bailey was given a “menu” with prize options, from a champagne toast with Grant or a private dance to one of his t-shirts to sleep in, and more. She sprung for Grant’s plain white tee (which of course smelled like him!) and the two shared dessert. The sweet streak continued when Parisa pulled Grant aside for Chubby Bunny, a game where you stuff marshmallows in your mouth while saying “chubby bunny.” And Grant got more sugar (kissing!) from Juliana after they bonded over their love of dogs and their crushes on each other.
The sweet evening took a sour turn when Zoe — who rubbed some of her fellow contestants the wrong way in Episode 2 — broke down in tears because she wasn’t “in her element” on the date. Some women tried to comfort her, but others had a hard time understanding the tears. Tensions rose when Zoe overheard Alli Jo and Sarafiena commenting on how short her dress was, so Zoe used her time with Grant to update him on her “very stressful day.” Grant encouraged her to continue being herself, and before he left the afterparty, he told the group, “There have been some rumors about people belittling and making people feel uncomfortable in the house. We have to be kind to each other.” By the time the girls got back to the mansion, everyone on the date was crying over the drama.
Who Got The Group Date Rose? Parisa snagged the stem in a giant win for laughter and Chubby Bunny.
Grant Ellis And Carolina Quixano’s One-On-One Date Recap: Sin City, A Secret Handshake, And A Serious Conversation
Grant’s first one-on-one date of the week was with Carolina Quixano, the winner of his Episode 2 singing competition. The Season 29 lead surprised the 28-year-old public relations producer from Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, with a private jet to Vegas where they jumped off of the 829-foot Strat Hotel, created their own handshake, and had a romantic dinner.
While the two were discussing their readiness for marriage, Carolina told Grant that she had a seizure when she was a teenager and was diagnosed with the neurological disease epilepsy at age 17. “Thankfully, I’ve controlled it with medication, but it is something that I have to really take care of,” Carolina explained. “Not everyone wants that kind of commitment. Sometimes I’m afraid to say what I go through, because I don’t want people to try to put limits on me… So I do want you to think about whether that’s something that you want to deal with or not.”
Grant took a moment to gather his thoughts, then assured Carolina he was starting to feel real feelings for her and “that’s not something that’s going to stand in the way at all if we do get married.” Grant promised Carolina that he’d always put her first and said, “You’re beautiful, you’re funny, you’re smart, but most importantly, you have a great heart, and that’s the number one characteristic I’m looking for in a wife.”
Did Carolina Get The Rose? You bet! Grant was moved by and grateful to hear more of Carolina’s story. Hr assured her he wants to get to know every part of her, inside and out.
The One-On-One That Wasn’t: Beverly’s Unexpected Bachelor Departure
The following day, Grant was scheduled to go on his second one-on-one date with Beverly Ortega, a 30-year-old insurance salesperson from Howard Beach, New York, however the women learned she was “very sick” and wouldn’t be coming back to the house. Per Reality Steve, “Apparently, Beverly got very sick after the basketball date and was taken to the hospital. She eventually wasn’t able to be medically cleared to return back to the show so she went home this episode.”
The episode gave no additional details as to why exactly Beverly left the show, so keep an eye out for an Instagram post with more details.
The Three-On-One Date That Was: Must Love Dogs
Instead of a replacement one-on-one, Grant invited three women who impressed him the most on his group date — Sarafiena, Dina, and Litia — on a three-on-one to Vanderpump Dogs, Lisa Vanderpump’s dog rescue in Los Angeles. Lisa herself stopped by to guide the group in their volunteering efforts, and after Grant got to know the ladies better during dog grooming, bathing, and walks, he invited Litia on a romantic dinner date.
Grant opened up about his upbringing, and in return, Litia opened up about her parents, who met in college in Hawaii. “My mom is from Idaho. She’s white. And my dad is from Fiji. They fell in love and they got married, and they had me. And when I was three months old, my dad passed away in a car accident,” she shared. Litia called her mom the “greatest example of strength and resilience” and said how hard it was to be away from her family. Grant’s response? They FaceTimed Litia’s mom to say hi, and he thanked her for doing such a great job with her daughter. (BRB crying!)
Did Litia Get The Rose? You bet! The ended the night by slow dancing outside to a string quartet, and Grant told cameras, “After tonight, Litia could be my wife.” Woah baby!
The Bachelor Season 29, Episode 3 Cocktail Party Recap: An Impromptu Golden Prom
Instead of a regular old cocktail party, a box full of corsages arrived at the mansion with a note that read “Will you go to prom with me?” Turns out, Grant prioritized basketball and missed his high school prom. He had to wait a few years, but now he got to go with 13 dates and four Golden Bachelorette fan-favorite friends: Gary Levingston, Jonathan Rone, Keith Gordon, and Jack Lencioni.
In addition to making us desperately long for the franchise’s golden era to return, the Golden Guys got low on the dance floor, hit up the photo booth, shot some hoops, and shared some words of wisdom with Grant’s ladies. Grill master Jack even gave a lesson on making the perfect burger!
If the impromptu prom seemed too good to be true, it was! Despite getting a rose on her one-on-one date, Carolina spent the day crying over a conversation she had with Rose, who told her that on their Episode 2 group date, Grant told Rose he was thinking of her while he was dancing with Carolina. MESSY! When Carolina confronted Grant about the comment, Grant immediately said, “That’s a lie,” and asked Carolina who told her. He figured it out via process of elimination and confronted Rose, who swore she heard him say that and apologized for the misunderstanding. Grant told Rose that the comment was not only disrespectful, but made him look like he was a lead for the wrong reasons. He left the conversation frustrated, and Rose was visibly sweating the slip-up.
