Over 300 flights delayed, 16 canceled at Denver airport after ground stop

DENVER (KDVR) β€” Over a hundred flights are delayed and more than a dozen are canceled Saturday after a ground stop was lifted at the Denver International Airport.

Saturday is a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day as a major snowstorm continues to impact travel in the mountains and snow is on the way in the Denver weather forecast.

The airport told FOX31 that a ground stop was issued for arriving planes around 7:30 a.m. due to an equipment outage with the Federal Aviation Administration. The ground stop was lifted as of 8:12 a.m., but many flights were impacted.

According to online flight tracker FlightAware, as of just before 1 p.m., there are 16 canceled flights, including 14 on SkyWest and two on United. Additionally, 344 flights are delayed. Most of the delays are on United with 116, followed by SkyWest with 105 and Southwest with 78.

About half of the impacted flights are departing from the airport and about half are arriving.

More cancelations and delays could arise as wintry weather conditions are expected to impact travelers across much of Colorado on Saturday.

If you’re flying out of Denver or picking someone up from the airport on Saturday, check the forecast and prepare for possibly wintry driving conditions, especially in the evening, and check FOX31’s Denver traffic map for live traffic conditions.
