The NBA should take a page out of MTV’s book to revitalize the game
MTV used to put on basketball games called Rock N’ Jock, in which celebrities and athletes would play an exhibition and there’d be gimmicks. Certain shots were worth 10 points, for example.
The NBA shouldn’t become Rock N’ Jock — but it can still swipe an element from it.
Here’s what should happen: Any shot from beyond halfcourt in the final minute of a quarter or half should be worth four points instead of three. This should be done for two reasons:
1. We’ve seen that players are at times reluctant to heave it up from halfcourt or beyond because — presumably — they’ll hurt their shooting percentage since it’s, quite literally, such a long shot.
