Cops: Drunken driver hits, destroys house in Wantagh

Nassau police arrested a man on drunken driving charges after, police said, he effectively destroyed a Wantagh house he crashed into early Saturday morning.
Daniel Delia, 33, of Bellmore, allegedly crashed into the Gregg Court home at 12:19 a.m., Nassau County police said in a press release. Delia drove a 2019 Hyundai Elantra into the house, “causing extensive damage” to the point where the town of Hempstead’s building inspector “determined that the home was no longer safe to inhabit,” police said.
Delia was the only person injured during the incident, according to Nassau police. The agency said he was “placed under arrest without further incident” and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Police charged Delia with DWI and second-degree criminal mischief. If convicted, those charges can carry a combined sentence of up to a decade in jail.
Delia is scheduled to appear in Nassau County’s First District Court in Hempstead on Saturday.
