Dem Rep. Jasmine Crockett suggests US might not ‘have elections’ in 2028
Far-left congresswoman Jasmine Crockett has questioned whether the US will be holding a presidential election in four years, doubling down on her previously stated crackpot narrative that President Trump is a dictator bent on undoing democratic norms.
Crockett made the remark on Sunday morning’s “State of the Union” program on CNN, hosted by left-leaning anchor Jake Tapper, who asked her whether fellow lefty congresswoman Alexia Ocasio-Cortez should mount a 2028 primary challenge against embattled Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
“You’re close with congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez … some of your fellow House Democrats say — not just progressives, by the way, we’ve heard moderates have said this too — that they’re ready to support her to challenge Chuck Schumer in a Democratic primary. Would you get behind that?” Tapper asked.
“That’s four years from now. If you were asking me at least in two years then I’d have an absolute answer,” the Texas congresswoman said.
“But I can tell you that there are a lot of people that are watching this leadership in this moment, this is the moment, we don’t even know what elections will look like in four years, if we will have elections,” she said before an oblique reference to a need for “younger, fresher” leadership without directly answering the question.
Tapper did not challenge her elections assertion in any way.
Schumer has come under heavy fire from within his own party days after voting for a Republican plan to avert a shutdown of the federal government — which he publicly assailed just a day before his surprise about-face.
Speaking on CNN Thursday, AOC called Schumer’s vote “a tremendous mistake,” and slammed the GOP plan he helped pass as turning the federal government “into a slush fund for Donald Trump and Elon Musk.”
Crockett is well known for drawing controversy over wild statements and assertions, including calling Trump a “dictator” and an “enemy to the United States” during an appearance on MSNBC earlier this month.
She’s also flirted with 2024 election results denialism during a Delivering on Government Efficiency subcommittee meeting last month, where she called Trump, 78, “the person that allegedly got elected.”
In an interview with Vanity Fair last December, Crockett, 43, hit out at Hispanic voters who backed the Trump ticket in that year’s election as having a “slave mentality.”
