Long Island weather: Spring arrives with fog, drizzle; rain expected Thursday night

As spring arrived at 5:01 a.m. on Long Island Thursday, so did a forecast of spring showers leading up to the weekend.

The National Weather Service forecasts patchy drizzle before 2 p.m. Thursday with areas of fog.

The rest of Thursday will see a high of 51 with mostly cloudy conditions. But showers arrive Thursday night, with a 90% chance of precipitation into Friday morning that could bring up to a half inch of rain.

A chance of showers lingers Friday during the day, with a 30% chance of rain before 11 a.m.

Skies will clear Friday afternoon, with a high of 52, forecasters said.

The service forecasts wind gusts of up to 23 mph Friday night, with a low of 37.

Saturday will be the warmest day on the weekend, with a high of 56.

But Sunday’s temperatures drop to a high of 48, as another system makes its way to the island Sunday night.

An 80% chance of rain is forecast for Monday, the service said.
