Yellowstone bison prevail in show of force against grizzly bear near Old Faithful
There’s not a grizzly bear in Yellowstone National Park that is willing to mess with a bison herd on full alert.
The accompanying footage, captured Monday via the park’s livestream camera, shows several bison driving a grizzly bear from its cozy hangout in the Old Faithful/Upper Geyser Basin area.
Grizzly bears are emerging from hibernation and obviously hungry. This bear seems to be looking for an opportunity, but has lost the element of surprise.
The footage shows the bear roaming alongside a creek near the bison, as the herd tightens ranks and collectively stands guard. At this moment, the bear begins to walk away and a chase ensues, with the bear ultimately vanishing into the forest.
Yellowstone Forever, a nonprofit partner of Yellowstone National Park, featured the footage as a means of touting the park’s livestream cameras, stating:
“Watch anytime. You’ll see eruptions of Old Faithful and have the potential to see other eruptions from geysers like Beehive and Lion. You never know what else you may see!”
Yellowstone is currently plowing roads in preparation for the 2025 spring and summer seasons.
