Columbia student arrested for allegedly throwing unlit Molotov cocktail from dorm window
A Columbia University student-athlete has been arrested for allegedly throwing an unlit Molotov cocktail from his dorm room, according to police.
Javen Jovero, a 22-year-old senior at the Ivy League college, sparked a panic when he filled a plastic bottle with rubbing alcohol and a sock and hurled it from a dormitory on the schoolโs East Campus on Monday night.
While no one was injured as the makeshift firebomb wasnโt lit, police received multiple 911 calls from worried students around 8:30 p.m.
Jovero โ who wrestled for the Lions, according to the teamโs website โ was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, police said.
The electrical engineering student and southern California native was later charged with criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment, according to police.
Police have not linked it to the political turmoil thatโs gripped the Manhattan school since Hamasโ Oct. 7 attack on Israel.
