A Popular Trader Joe’s Frozen Item Was Just Recalled For Possible ‘Foreign Material’

Turns out, you should skip the frozen acai bowl for breakfast this week and maybe opt for Deep-Dish Loaded Hashbrown Casserole, instead.

On February 14, 2025, beloved supermarket chain Trader Joe’s issued yet another food recall for potential plastic contamination—this time, affecting Organic Acai Bowls in their freezer aisle.

According to an announcement on the company’s website, Trader Joe’s is recalling the popular frozen fruit product with berries, bananas, granola, and dried coconut “out of an abundance of caution,” citing that the bowls “may contain foreign material (plastic).”

Surprisingly, they didn’t specify best-by dates or UPC codes in the recall, nor how many units of Organic Acai Bowls were affected. They also did not report if there have been any injuries reported with the recall to date. Instead, the company urged customers to throw away any bowls in their freezer or return the Organic Acai Bowls to their local Trader Joe’s for a full refund.

Trader Joe’s has had several major product recalls in the last year. In mid-February, they were included in a seafood recall that pulled half-a-million cans of tuna from shelves. In October 2024, over 1,200 cases of green onions were recalled for potential salmonella contamination. In August, they recalled over 650,000 mango tangerine scented candles, and in March, nearly 62,000 pounds of frozen soup dumplings—also over fears that the product contained hard plastic.

Y’all stay vigilant out there!
