Ana Gasteyer Says Diddy “Deserved” To Have Will Ferrell Prank Him On ‘SNL’ After He “Demanded A Totally Closed Set”
Saturday Night Live star Ana Gasteyer recalled her experience on set with Sean “Diddy” Combs when he served as a musical guest in 1998 — and she didn’t have the most flattering things to say.
During an appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast, Gasteyer revealed Diddy demanded “a totally closed set” during his rehearsal, something usually reserved for “presidential candidates,” she said.
“He of course shut down the whole building. You can tell the five assholes in the six years that I was there when they would be like, ‘So-and-so is in the building, everybody stay in your dressing rooms!’” Gasteyer recalled. “Which is applicable if you’re a presidential candidate. But apart from that, really it’s my house. He demanded a totally closed set.”
She then revealed that they convinced Will Ferrell to play a little prank on the rapper during his rehearsal, despite his demands. Ferrell roamed the stage in costume as his character Ron from SNL‘s “Mango” sketches.
“They were like, ‘Wouldn’t it be so funny if Ron just went in?’” she said. “And he did. He went on down the stairs and he marched right in.”
She continued, “I have the video from the control room where Sean Combs is rapping and behind him, Ron is just walking around looking really disoriented.”
This episode took place in 1998, but Diddy later returned to the show in 2010 when Robert de Niro hosted.
Gasteyer added, “It is the greatest thing that’s ever happened, because what a deserved person to have their ‘Kashmir’ moment interrupted by Ron. And he really did not roll with it. He was very uncomfortable.”
Diddy is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. He was arrested in September on several charges including racketeering, sex trafficking by force and transportation for purposes of prostitution, according to The BBC.
The shocking allegations came to light after his former girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura, accused him of abuse and sex trafficking in an explosive lawsuit filed in 2023. Since then, at least 27 other victims have come forward.
If convicted, he could face 15 years to life in prison.
