Anjelica Huston, 73, reveals private cancer battle: ‘Big shock’
Anjelica Huston is a cancer survivor.
The Hollywood legend, 73, revealed her private cancer battle for the first time in an interview with People published Wednesday.
Huston said she had a âbout with cancerâ in 2019 following the release of her film âJohn Wick: Chapter 3 â Parabellum.â
âThat was a very serious moment for me,â she told the outlet of her diagnosis. âI managed to survive it, and Iâm proud of myself.â
âItâs not something that came lightly,â the actress continued. âIt came as a big shock, but it made me conscious of what I shouldnât do, of places I shouldnât go. One of those places was taking life too seriously. So now when the opportunity arises, I laugh, and I try not to make a big deal out of things.â
Huston said that sheâs now âin the clearâ of cancer. She didnât disclose what form of the disease she had.
âIâm at the four-year mark, and that means so much to me,â said Huston, who confirmed she still does scans. âItâs a fantastic thing. Iâm very proud of myself, and Iâve been very lucky. My doctors have been wonderful.â
The âAddams Familyâ star also explained why she kept her cancer battle a secret for six years.
âSometimes you feel like you donât want to talk about it for the obvious reasons, but thereâs a lot to be said for talking about it and getting it out there and celebrating the fact that oneâs come through,â she said.Â
âLife is tenuous and wonderful. It also gives you the idea that the world is big and you can somehow match up to it. That youâre ready for whatever happens,â Huston added.
In thew wake of beating cancer, Huston â whose next acting project is a three-part limited series about Agatha Christie â shut down the possibility of retiring from Hollywood soon.
âI canât imagine such a thing,â she said to People. âI think it would be too much, even for me.â
Earlier this year, Huston was forced to evacuate her home during the Los Angeles wildfires. She told The Guardian that her ex, Jack Nicholson, reached out to her during the crisis.
âI was in a car with three dogs, two cats, and the housekeeper, and he called and asked if I was all right, and if I had someplace I was staying,â Huston told the outlet in Feb.
Huston dated Nicholson on-and-off from 1973 to 1990, during which they co-starred in the films âPrizziâs Honor,â âThe Last Tycoonâ and âThe Postman Always Rings Twice.â They broke up after Nicholson cheated on her.
âThatâs the bottom line with he and I â when the chips are down, heâs there,â Huston also said.
