ST. LOUIS – Detectives with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department are thanking the public after community tips led authorities to arrest a woman for a fatal hit-and-run last week.
According to a police spokesman, the hit-and-run happened on April 2 around 7:50 p.m. at Gravois and Bamberger avenues in the Tower Grove South neighborhood.
Police said Jason Lewis of St. Peters was riding a bicycle west on Gravois and then turned south at Bamberger, across the westbound lanes of Gravois. During that turn, a silver-colored Ford Edge struck Lewis as he crossed into the eastbound lanes of Gravois. The driver of the Ford Edge fled after the collision.
Lewis landed in the westbound lanes of Gravois, where he was struck by three other vehicles. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced. Lewis was 27.

Detectives found surveillance video of the Ford Edge and released those images to the public on April 4.
Police said the community provided enough information so detectives identified Tamarris Buckner as the driver. According to a police probable cause statement, Buckner admitted she’d been drinking and ingested marijuana on the day of the crash.
Buckner, 29, denied involvement in the collision. However, police said investigators learned a tracker had been placed on her vehicle at the time of sale, which showed it was present at the time of the crash.
The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Buckner with leaving the scene of an accident – resulting in a death. Buckner remains jailed without bond. Online court records do not say when she’ll appear before a judge.
A search of online court records shows Buckner ticketed for at least 27 separate traffic violations going back to 2023.
