Drew Barrymore Says She Doesn’t Remember Much From Clubbing With Billy Idol At 11 Years Old: “I Was Hoping You Could Color Some Stuff In For Me”
Drew Barrymore and Billy Idol go way back — and on this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, they reflected on their clubbing days in the ’80s.
When Barrymore and Idol settled into their spots on the iconic Drew Barrymore Show couch, the actress asked the control room to pull up a photo of the two of them at The Limelight, a club in New York City. The picture that came up was taken in 1986, meaning Barrymore was only 11 years old, while Idol was 31.
“Billy, that is like where I see us when I think of you in my mind is back in the old club days,” Barrymore said, before asking, “What the hell do you remember from those days?”
Idol playfully replied, “Not very much,” to which Barrymore added, “Me neither. I was hoping you could color some stuff in for me. The only thing I knew was that I loved you, I got to hang out with you. We were obviously playful and silly.”
By the end of the episode, Barrymore was feeling nostalgic about the good ol’ days.
“I miss dancing so much. I miss the clubs. And those places played, as we said, every type of music. And you really pushed through and you changed the world and we all thank you for that,” she said, while Idol agreed, “Yeah, it was a super fun time.”
“Making the music for the time and sort of seeing it be successful and everything, it’s super exciting and it’s still exciting today,” he continued. “That’s the great thing. It doesn’t get old. The songs don’t get old.”
Idol wasn’t the only A-lister Barrymore partied with at a young age. During a March episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, she said she used to “party hard” with Jack Nicholson, who was four decades her senior, at Helena’s, a popular Los Angeles club in the 1980s.
“He was fun,” Barrymore said, before later adding, “I was [at clubs] starting … at least 8, 9, 10, 11. I had my 10th birthday at a nightclub.”
