Beloved Park Ave. restaurant closes after more than 50 years

A beloved Park Avenue mainstay for more than 50 years has closed for good.

The Park Avenue Pub and Restaurant opened at 650 Park Ave. since 1973. Scott and Sheila Schalm have owned it for the past 14 years.

The restaurant was last open for New Year’s Eve and has been closed since then. In early January it posted on social media that it was closed for a staff holiday and winter break.

Owner Sheila Shalm confirmed via text that the closure is now permanent. “We enjoyed our winter break so much that we decided to make it permanent,” she said. She declined to comment about the reasons for the closing.

The company that operates the restaurant owes at least $7,000 in back taxes to New York state, according to a warrant filed Feb. 24 with the Monroe County Clerk’s Office.

Alloco Real Estate Management owns the building; the space is not currently listed as available on its website.
