Bridal Reflections in Massapequa has more than 1,000 wedding dresses damaged in fire, fire marshal says
More than 1,000 wedding dresses were damaged in a fire at a Massapequa bridal shop on Sunday, according to the Nassau County fire marshal.
Hopeful brides and staff at Bridal Reflections on Broadway noticed smoke coming from the floor as the fire alarm went off just before 3 p.m., Nassau County Chief Fire Marshal Michael Uttaro said.
About 75 firefighters responded to the scene, he said, coming from the Massapequa, Seaford, Wantagh, Amityville and North Massapequa departments.
The fire began in the shop’s basement, where thousands of wedding dresses were being stored, Uttaro said. The flames destroyed up to 200 dresses and left more than 1,000 dresses with smoke damage, he said.
First responders controlled the fire within 30 minutes and no one was injured, according to Uttaro. Officials are investigating its cause. The owner of Bridal Reflections did not immediately respond to an inquiry.
