Chinese automaker’s electric SUV offers 745-mile range, charges 30-80% in 10 mins

Chinese state-owned automobile manufacturer GAC has launched its new SUV, dubbed the Hyptec HL, in two electric variants. The launch, under GAC’s high-end energy conscious label, follows the rebranding of the previous Hyper into Hyptec in August last year.

The SUV is available in both all-electric (EV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) versions. Designed under the ‘land yacht’ concept, the Hyptec HL aims to combine spacious luxury with fast supercharging and smooth starting technology.

The SUV is equipped with a roof-mounted LiDAR, three millimeter-wave radars, 11 cameras, and 12 ultrasonic sensors to enable advanced driver assistance features. Powered by GAC’s ADiGO system, these functions work without the need for a high-definition map. Key capabilities include static obstacle detection, assistance with parking in tight spaces, autonomous valet parking, remote parking support, and blind spot monitoring.

Supports 5C charging, takes 10 mins to go from 30% to 80%

All Hyptec HL models come standard with an 800V fast-charging system. The two entry-level rear-wheel-drive EV variants support a 3C charging rate, allowing the battery to charge from 30% to 80% in just 15 minutes. Higher trims support a faster 5C charging rate, reducing the same charge time to only 10 minutes.

The Hyptec HL offers two EV options for performance. The rear-wheel-drive (RWD) model features a 335 hp electric motor at the rear, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds. The all-wheel-drive (AWD) version combines a 174 hp motor at the front with a 335 hp motor at the rear, reaching 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, CarNewsChina reported.

Both versions come with either a 95.9 kWh or a 108.35 kWh lithium battery, providing driving ranges of up to 416 miles, 434 miles, or 466 miles. Despite the strong performance, the car maintains good efficiency, with a power consumption rate of 4.4 miles per kWh.

The EREV version of the Hyptec HL features a 1.5T engine and a 53-liter fuel tank, paired with a 335 hp (250 kW) rear electric motor. It can go from 0 to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds. It comes with a 60.33 kWh CATL Freevoy lithium battery, offering a pure electric range of around 217 miles. When using both the electric motor and the engine, the total range reaches up to 745 miles. It also has an efficient power consumption rate of 4 miles per kWh, making it a practical option for both short trips and longer drives.

Advanced smart cockpit with DeepSeek AI voice interaction

Hyptec claims that the second-row seats in the HL offer a NASA-inspired double zero-gravity design, providing 12-way electric adjustment, an 18-point hot stone massage function, and dual armrest screens for added comfort and convenience.

Additionally, the Hyptec HL features a smart cockpit system with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chip and DeepSeek-R1 AI integration, enabling voice interaction for a more convenient driving experience.

In 2024, GAC also introduced a new type of electric motor that fits directly into the wheel. This design helps simplify the drivetrain by removing parts like the gearbox and driveshaft, opening up new possibilities for how EVs are built.

The company further states that the latest efforts reflect GAC Group’s priorities to lead the smart electric vehicle market as part of its global expansion strategy. With the rise of electric travel, Chinese electric brands are positioning themselves to share their technological advancements with the world.

The vehicle is priced between $36,900 and $43,800.
