Coal Plant Comes Crashing Down in Germany During Controlled Demolition

A coal-fired power plant in Ibbenburen, Germany, was demolished in a controlled explosion on Sunday, April 6.

WDR News reported that both the100-meter-high boiler house and the 125-meter-high cooling tower were successfully brought down, following the plantโ€™s shutdown in 2021 as part of Germanyโ€™s nationwide energy transition away from fossil fuels.

Footage filmed by Jan Schroth shows the demolition.

The site will soon host a converter station for wind power from the North Sea, the construction company Hagerdon said. Credit: Jan Schroth via Storyful
