Dave Portnoy calls Duke ‘choking dog losers’ costing him $200K bet
Dave Portnoy was on the precipice of winning a nearly $200,000 bet during the Final Four on Saturday before Duke collapsed.
And it left the Barstool Sports founder fuming about the Blue Devils, who lost to Houston, 70-67, after leading by 14 in the middle of the second half.
āThat has to go down as one of the greatest chokes in history of sports,ā Portnoy wrote on X after the game. āCongrats Duke. You will always be remembered as choking dog losers.ā
Portnoy posted screengrabs of a four-leg parlay he placed on the game, in which he wagered $25,000 to potentially win $193,750.
He hit on Houstonās Emanuel Sharp making at least three 3-pointers, Dukeās Kon Knueppel scoring more than 14.5 points and Cooper Flagg scoring at least 20 points.
But the last leg of the parlay was Dukeās moneyline.
The Blue Devilsā loss came after a controversial foul on freshman phenom Cooper Flagg for going over the back on a rebound attempt after a missed free throw by teammate Tyrese Proctor. Houstonās JāWan Roberts made both of his ensuing free throws to put the Cougars ahead with 19 seconds remaining.
Portnoy, who says President Trumpās tariffs have cost him $7 million, wasnāt having any of Duke fansā complaints about the call.

āDuke fans complaining about this foul call are babies,ā Portnoy said. āYou blew it. You couldnāt inbound the ball. You dribbled it off your leg. Proctor played hero ball and missed [the] free throw. A million chances to seal it and youāre gonna blame the ref? Loser talk from losers.ā
Houston will face Florida in the national championship game on Monday in San Antonio to cap off March Madness.
Flagg, meanwhile, is the projected No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft after being named national player of the year.
