Deadly trailer fire in Clifton, victim’s daughter speaks out
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — WesternSlopeNow reported on a deadly trailer fire Tuesday night at Candlewood Park Trailer Park in Clifton that claimed one life, Phillip Tino, 59, and sent another to the hospital.
Daughter of the victim, Anna Smith, says they have never experienced anything like this in the time they have lived there.
Just in the past 10 months, neighbors say Candlewood Park has seen three separate fires.
Ex-fireman Allan Richardson was passing by, and he explained how the material used in the construction of these homes is prone to fire.
“Everything is wood. The walls are only maybe that (makes hand gesture) thick between your inside wall and the outside of the trailer itself. I think that’s one of the main reasons they go up so quickly.”
A neighbor of a home that burned down last year, Alicia Schavey, says since their neighbor’s home burned down, she has been taking precautions.
“I try to always be really cautious, like unplugging chargers, checking if they get hot. Checking my stove and making sure everything is turned off before I leave the house.”
WesternSlopeNow visited the Candlewood Park onsite office for comment and was referred to a corporate representative. We are still waiting for a response.
