Dust storm impacts El Paso
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A part of I-10 West is currently closed due to a dust storm in the area.
The New Mexico Department of Transportation says that I-10 West is currently closed at the Las Cruces exit due to areas of blowing dust and low to zero visibility.
The National Weather Service sent out a “Dust Storm Warning” to all mobile devices on Thursday, March 6, stating that the area will be affected until 5 p.m.
The National Weather Service advises those who are out on the road to be ready for a sudden drop to zero visibility and to pull to the side of the road.
Several flights are also being delayed or canceled at the El Paso International Airport.
NMDOT says it will continue to monitor the roadway and has provided information on shelter-in-place locations. Those locations are the Las Cruces airport or back in Las Cruces.
NMDOT has also reported difficult driving conditions in New Mexico due to the blowing dust. Those roads with difficult driving conditions are the following:
-
I-10 West and East are closed from Deming to Las Cruces
-
NM 26 southbound lanes are closed at Hatch to Deming
-
I-10 West and East are closed from Stateline to Lordburg
