Empty lines at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport day before Christmas Eve
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) β It was a slower start to the holiday week at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. Travelers were surprised to see empty security lines throughout the day before Christmas Eve.
βI was I was shocked that itβs like nobody here but the employees,β said traveler Dennis Laws. βItβs really, itβs not that bad. I think you pick the days when you want to come. Christmas Eve, of course, Christmas, is going to be crazy.β

However, airport officials are still warning how the rush could ramp up at any time. Nearly 700,000 people are expected to pass through the airport this holiday week, according to MSY officials.
Experts recommend getting there at least two hours early. MSY officials say the airportβs busiest times are 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
βGetting to the airport was so easy. Especially with a new exit ramp. Right up, dropped off, got tickets, everything, in like ten minutes, and thereβs no lines to get through security,β said Peter Sather.

Airports across the nation are also gearing up for a busy holiday travel week. According to AAA, nearly 120 million people will be traveling at least 50 miles from home during this holiday season.
The TSA says it is expecting a 6.2% increase in passengers at checkpoints compared to last year.
βLast time we were here, it was very busy, even when we came in a couple days ago, it was jam packed,β said Laws.
