Evacuation order lifted for Cowley County

COWLEY COUNTY, Kan. — Crews spent hours trying to contain a fire.

KSN spoke to residents in the evacuation zone, and one even said it looked like the wildfires in the Palisades.

Wesley Vaden only had one thing on his mind.

“Make sure everyone is headed to safety that is nearby,” said Vaden.

Vaden was just trying to ensure the fire didn’t get to any homes.

“I got up this morning and called Adam, his dad, like I usually do to see if he needed anything, and he was like, ‘You could come help us get started with rangers and everything if they get us called out’,” said Vaden.

Vaden says he was called in to help put out the fires after two hours.

“We were running his dad’s trucks around for him and looking around and just trying to find the best place to start,” said Vaden.

Those in the evacuation zone described the scene as hazy because of the dust.

So far no one is hurt.
