Nearly 500,000 Units of This Popular Kitchen Appliance Sold at Costco Is Being Recalled Nationwide—Here’s What to Know

LG is recalling nearly 500,000 units of Slide-In and Freestanding Electric Ranges due to a potentially harmful technical hazard. The official report, which was published by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), notes an issue with the recalled units’ front-mounting knobs, as they can be activated accidentally through contact with humans, children or pets. The issue poses a direct fire hazard for those who may have these units in their possession.

This recall specifically names both the LG Slide-In Ranges and the Freestanding Ranges with front-mounting knobs. Exact model and serial numbers can be found here, and users can find them located inside of the oven doors or storage drawers located on the bottom of the ovens. The units in question were manufactured in Mexico and Korea before being imported to the United States via LG Electronics USA Inc. in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. They were sold at Best Buy, Costco, The Home Depot, Lowe’s and other appliance stores nationwide and online.

While the official recall notice (published on February 6) calls for repair as a remedy, consumers are urged to contact LG for a free warning label and placement instructions. The label reminds consumers to use the Lock Out/Control Lock function on the range control panel to disable activation of the heating elements while the range is not in use. Additionally, LG has provided consumers an instructional video regarding the Control Lock/Lock Out feature.

Those who have one of these models at home are cautioned to keep children and pets away from the knobs, and to check the range periodically in order to ensure the knobs are, in fact, turned off before leaving home or going to bed. LG also encouraged users not to leave objects on the range while it is not in use. Depending on the model, these ranges are said to have been sold from 2015 through January 2025 for anywhere between $1,400 and $2,650.

So far, the CPSC has received around 86 reports of unintentional activation of the front-mounted knobs. The LG ranges identified in the recall have also been responsible for more than 28 fires, with at least five fires leading to extensive property damage totaling over $340,000. There have been at least eight minor injuries reported, including burns, and three reports of fires that resulted in the unfortunate death of pets.
