Kelly Ripa Calls Out Mark Consuelos After He Claims His Texting Style Is “Short And Sweet”: “You Don’t Respond”

Kelly Ripa has the receipts.

This morning on Live with Kelly and Mark, Mark Consuelos shared a study from Indiana University that found “those who use a lot of emojis tend to have higher emotional intelligence.” However, Ripa immediately opted to “throw a flag on the play.”

“I know somebody who really abuses emojis,” she teased. “As a matter of fact, it’s communicating only with emojis, and you have to decipher what the emojis mean.”

Consuelos, who appeared to know who Ripa was referring to, cited “prayer hands” and “heart” emojis as those commonly used by this person. However, he lost Ripa at “puppies,” which she said this person doesn’t really use.

As for Consuelos, he said he “like[s] short and sweet responses when people ask questions.”

Ripa clarified, “You don’t respond.”

Consuelos continued, “I’m like thumbs up, heart. If it’s one of my buddies and he said something cool, ‘Hey that’s gonna be awesome,’ I do a bicep flex. That’s how I communicate. Real fast. So I guess I’m a genius. No, it doesn’t mean that. It means I’m emotionally intelligent.”

In order to combat his claims, Ripa performed a typical “text exchange” between her and Consuelos.

“‘Do you want to eat at 7 or at 8?’” she said.

Though Consuelos chimed in and insisted he would react with a “heart,” Ripa argued that is not the case.

“‘7 or at 8? Hello?’” she added, eventually noting that Consuelos would respond with a “thumbs up.”

Consuelos reiterated, “Short and sweet.”

Ripa said, “Short and sweet, but also non-committal. Not answering the question.”

Consuelos admitted that he “usually read[s] the first part of the text” before ultimately not responding, which Ripa echoed.

“Exactly. That’s not emotional intelligence, that’s avoidance,” she quipped.

Nonetheless, she Consuelos joked that according to the study, he’s “as smart as can be.”
