Girl defies death as impatient driver barrels past school bus in insane video
Heartstopping video shows a West Virginia girl narrowly defy death when a reckless driver barrels past her stopped school bus and misses her by mere inches.
The girl had just stepped off the bus on her way home from school in Kanawha County on March 14, when a beat-up Lincoln sedan approached from behind and blasted past the vehicleβs extended stop sign, according to cops and the footage.
She is seen in the footage walking across the front of the bus when she briefly looks down at her phone β just as the car rockets up the road towards her.
At the last moment the car swerves onto the roadβs shoulder, and the girl looks up from her phone and has to skid to a stop on her toes as the car whips by, the footage shows.
A cloud of dust blows her hair back as the car passes.
The driver flees without stopping or slowing, as the girl looks after it in shock, the footage shows.
Local police quickly circulated the clip of the shocking incident asking the public for help identifying the driver. Authorities included an image of the car which appeared to show it had endured some rough driving, as the hood and bumper were nearly detached and a long dent stretched down its side.
On Thursday, Saint Albans man Kevin Webster was finally arrested and charged with driving under the influence., the Kanawha County Sheriffβs Office announced.
He was identified as the owner of the car within 30 minutes of the footage being posted, FOX 8 reported, but it took several days to determine whether he was actually the one allegedly behind the wheel during the incident.
Webster is also charged with overtaking and passing a school bus, reckless driving, driving on a revoked license for DUI and suspended driving.
