Grizzlies’ Jaylen Wells stretchered off after scary injury on flagrant foul

Tuesday’s Grizzlies-Hornets game came with a scary moment late in the second quarter.

The Grizzlies’ Jaylen Wells fell to the floor under the basket after getting fouled hard by Charlotte’s KJ Simpson on a dunk with a little over a minute left in the half, later getting stretchered off the court at Spectrum Center on Tuesday night.

Wells caught an outlet pass from Ja Morant behind the Hornets’ defense and slammed the ball home before Simpson came from behind and ran into his lower body, leading to an incredibly hard and awkward fall where it appeared Wells hit both his right hand and head on the court.

Jaylen Wells was fouled hard on the play.

Both teams quickly converged under the basket but were stopped before tempers could boil over.

Medical and training staff personnel came over to help Wells, who lay on the court.

He was eventually stretchered off and appeared to briefly waved his right hand as he left the floor.

According to the Commercial Appeal, the game was put on pause for at least 20 minutes.
