Gunshots strike multiple Elmira homes, vehicles early on New Year’s Day. What we know.

Gunshots struck multiple homes and cars in the City of Elmira in the early morning hours Wednesday.

The Elmira Police Department responded to the 400 block of West 3rd Street for a report of gunshots around 4:50 a.m. New Year’s Day. Police spoke with multiple callers who said they had heard over eight gunshots in the area. Police also discovered multiple shell casings in the area.

Two homes and “several cars” were hit by gunshots, according to Elmira police. No injuries were reported Wednesday morning.

Police continue to investigate the incident. Anyone that witnessed the shooting or has video or information of the event is asked to contact the Elmira Police Department at 607-737-5626.
