Here’s how many people have been killed and injured on Treasure Coast

FORT PIERCE β€” The tally of fatalities caused by Brightline trains on the Treasure Coast climbed to seven Thursday after a pedestrian was hit andkilled by a train.

This is the first fatality and fourth Brightline incident this year, according to TCPalm’sΒ Brightline database, which has continued to collect data since the higher-speed passenger railroad began operations onΒ Sept. 22, 2023.

To put these figures in context, there have been 20 fatalities from 2,242 car crashes this year on the Treasure Coast, according to Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.

Past Brightline incidents this year

A 40-year-old woman was struck by a Brightline train while walking on railroad tracks Jan. 9 in Indian River County. The unidentified woman sustained a severe arm injury and was still conscious during her transport to a nearby trauma center.

A 30-year-old man, after being struck by a Brightline train Jan. 26 while crossing the railroad tracks, was flown to a nearby trauma center and arrived in critical condition.

A 30-year-old man sustained what law enforcement officials stated were severe injuries after being struck by a Brightline passenger train while on tracks in the area of 8th Street south of Vero Beach around 6 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2025.

A vehicle and Brightline train crashed Feb. 23 on Jensen Beach Boulevard. Two people were seriously injured and airlifted to a hospital.
