How to delete your information

23andMe, the genetic information company that can tell you about your ancestry through a saliva test, has filed for bankruptcy. And while the company says there will be no changes to the way that your data is protected, you may want to take action or risk your information falling into someone else’s ownership. California’s Attorney General has issued a consumer alert urging all customers to delete their information. Here are the steps to delete your account. Log into your 23andMe account on their website. Go to your profile and tap settings. Scroll down to a section labeled 23andMe data at the bottom of the page. That’s where that’s located. You can click view next to 23andMe data. And if you want a copy of your generic data, you can choose the option to download it to your device. Then scroll to delete data in that section. Click permanently delete data and to confirm this request, 23andMe will send you an email. You can follow the link in the email to confirm the deletion request. You can also choose to have the company destroy your sample. Log into your account, go to settings, then hit preferences and change from there. Navigate to the research and product consent section to revoke permission for your data to be used for research.
