HS roundup: Lacrosse, baseball, softball, badminton
Aiden Cromwell’s fourth score put St. Dominic boys lacrosse ahead with 52 seconds remaining in the game, completing a comeback in non-league play to beat Portledge, 12-11, Wednesday afternoon. Cromwell also had four assists. St. Dominic (3-2) trailed 5-2 at halftime and 8-6 entering the fourth quarter before scoring six goals in the game’s final 12 minutes for the win.
JJ Ramsay and Brian Medley added four points apiece. Logan Bracco impressed in the cage with 20 saves.
TUESDAY’S GAMES
Port Washington 6, Carey 1: Max Eynon made 13 saves in goal and Harry Eynon and Tommy McCarvill scored two goals each to lead Port Washington (4-1) in Nassau I. Ritchie Metzger made 16 saves for Carey (3-2).
Commack 13, Floyd 9: Zachary Fishman scored five goals and added an assist to lead Commack (1-3) in Suffolk I. James Pagano added six points of his own with three goals and three assists. Tommy Grabow added four goals.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Riverhead 13, Bellport 11: Logan Pilon had six goals and an assist for Riverhead (2-2) in its Suffolk I win. Sadie Schultz added three goals and Sara Maas made 14 saves. Cassidy Hanley scored five goals and assisted two more for Bellport (1-3).
Hicksville 11, Carey 9: Catherine Perucci and Brooke Sullivan-Pagano scored four goals each — with Sullivan-Pagano adding an assist — to lead Hicksville (5-1) in Nassau III. Leila Paz led Carey (1-5) with five goals and one assist.
Northport 8, Patchogue-Medford 5: Riley Cash scored two goals and assisted two more for Northport (5-0) in a Suffolk I win. Charlotte Cuneo made 11 saves. Olivia Liddell scored three goals for Patchogue-Medford (3-1).
BASEBALL
Carey 9, Garden City 8: Jack Degnan’s single to leftfield scored two runs and completed Carey’s nine-run comeback in Nassau AA-II. The Seahawks (3-1) trailed by eight entering the bottom of the sixth inning with zero hits before scoring nine runs in the bottom of the inning. Degnan also earned the win from the mound in relief, striking out seven across four innings.
Sewanhaka 9, Great Neck North 8: Ethan Tome struck out seven across 4 2⁄3 innings to earn the win for Sewanhaka (2-2) in Nassau Countywide. Tome also went 2-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs.
TUESDAY’S GAMES
Herricks 13, Carle Place 9: Gabe Schultz and Logan Aulicino both went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead Herricks (1-2) in non-league. Schultz’s double in the top of the seventh drove in what proved to be the winning runs. Herricks came back three times after being down multiple runs. Patrick McCarthy homered for Carle Place (4-2). Anthony Cardone struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh to close the game.
SOFTBALL
St. Anthony’s 2, Kellenberg 1: Emily Polarolo went 2-for-3 and drove in Violet Pryor on a walk-off triple in the bottom of the seventh for St. Anthony’s (5-1) in the CHSAA. Sophia Erker drove in Brianna Buckley on a one-out double in the sixth to tie the score at 1. Melissa Gordon pitched a complete-game three-hitter and struck out 12 to earn the win. Anna Anzalone drove in Gianna Abbenda on a double in the third inning for Kellenberg (7-4).
Herricks 4, Clarke 0: Madison Nell pitched a complete game and struck out 13 to earn the win for Herricks (7-1) in non-league. Avery Stuart went 2-for-3 with a single and a double. She also helped end the fifth inning with a double play. Emily Manzone went 2-for-3 with a single, a double and two RBIs.
BOYS BADMINTON
Smithtown East 5, Lindenhurst 4: Jake Lippolis and Mike Montemarano defeated Rodly Rene and Miguel Quintana, 21-8, 17-21, 21-13, at fourth doubles to lead Smithtown East (3-3) in Suffolk I.
GIRLS BADMINTON
Patchogue-Medford 5, Smithtown West 4: Kelly Delgado defeated Sam Lund at first singles in the deciding match, 21-12, 21-8, to lead Patchogue-Medford (5-1) in Suffolk I.
Hempstead 4, Uniondale 3: Odalys Canales defeated Autumn Angel, 21-15, 21-15, at third singles and Harmony Shuford and Stacey Romero defeated Max Jones and Laurie Destin, 21-17, 23-21, at first doubles to lead Hempstead (2-2) in Nassau IV.
