HS roundup: Softball, baseball, lacrosse, flag football

Dani Brennan struck out a batter with the bases loaded to end the game and give Sachem North a 5-3 win over Connetquot in Suffolk II softball on Thursday. Delaney Mathes hit a double and triple, drove in a run and scored a run. Brooke Giordano hit a two-out RBI single in the sixth inning for Sachem North (4-1). Addison Devery hit a home run a triple, had two RBIs and scored two runs for Connetquot (3-2).

Farmingdale 6, Massapequa 2: Mattea Vignona went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two RBIs to lead Farmingdale (4-2) in Nassau I. Megan Scott went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Juliana Abbene pitched a complete game, striking out three. Maeve Schiereck hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning for Massapequa (4-2).

WEDNESDAY’S GAMES

Hicksville 5, Carle Place 3: Heather Mane went 3-for-3, including a home run in the bottom of the sixth inning, for Hicksville (3-3) in non-league. Mane hit a leadoff single to start a four-run fifth inning. Mia Wulff hit a two-run double in the fifth and courtesy runner Melissa Lee scored the run on a single by Ansley Fox. Marissa Nosovitch struck out 12 for Carle Place (3-3).

BASEBALL

West Babylon 2, West Islip 1: Josh Gomez struck out 14 in a complete game to lead West Babylon (4-2) in Suffolk IV. Anthony Gerbasio had an RBI single and a run. Alex Abi-Zeid struck out five for West Islip (2-3).

Garden City 5, Carey 0: Zach Zander struck out six in six shutout innings of work to lead Garden City (4-2) in Nassau AA-II. Evan Cabral hit a solo home run in the first inning. Will Jewell and Jake Brown had consecutive two-out RBI hits in the third. Justin Baiker added two hits and an RBI. Jayden Gigante and Tristan Hickis each had two hits apiece for Carey (3-2).

WEDNESDAY’S GAMES

Oyster Bay 5, Herricks 4: Chase Lordi had a walk-off, bases loaded single to right-centerfield to drive in Ethan Ruff for Oyster Bay (3-2-1) in non-league. Lordi went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Nick VonBargen tossed 3 1⁄3 innings of scoreless relief in the win. Herricks is 1-4.

BOYS LACROSSE

Floyd 10, Patchogue-Medford 5: Marc Pluchino totaled five goals and an assist and coach Desmond Megna earned his 100th career win for Floyd (4-1) in Suffolk I. Jameek Lee Rudd made five saves. Geo Alvarez totaled two goals and two assists. Logan Brown had a goal and an assist for Patchogue-Medford (0-5).

Riverhead 9, North Babylon 2: Nathan Nentwich had two goals and three assists to lead Riverhead (2-4) in Suffolk I. Logan Dempsey had three goals and an assist and Ruairi McElhinney had two goals and two assists. Joe Kalhorn made 10 saves for North Babylon (2-3).

GIRLS LACROSSE

MacArthur 8, Roslyn 6: Caleigh O’Shea had two goals to lead MacArthur (5-2) in Nassau II. Kayleigh Huggard had a goal and two assists. Abby Clarkson made 13 saves. Lily Allen scored two goals for Roslyn (3-3).

Long Island Lutheran 15, Staten Island Academy 0: Kate Ross and Sophie Lambert each had three goals and two assists to lead Long Island Lutheran (5-3) in the PSAA. Caroline Hoschel, Sam Hughes and Sophie Sorensen each had a goal and an assist.

WEDNESDAY’S GAMES

Lynbrook 26, Plainedge 18: Gaby Ramirez had 161 total yards and three touchdowns, a 20-yard catch, a 15-yard catch and a 55-yard run, to lead Lynbrook (2-3) in Nassau B/C. Aliye Simsek completed 11 of 19 passes for 159 yards and three touchdowns and had a 54-yard rush. Ashley Franklin had three sacks and three pass breakups, Ramirez had three sacks and Julia Quinn had five flag pulls. Gianna Ponticello threw two touchdown passes and Amanda Martone had 90 receiving yards and a touchdown catch for Plainedge (2-2-1).

Floyd 18, Ward Melville 7: Savannah Pantry had two receiving touchdowns and one interception to lead Floyd (4-2) in Suffolk I. Vinte’ya Rountree had 150 total yards of offense, including a 72-yard rushing touchdown. Genesis Alfaro completed 10 of 15 passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns. Veronica Sky Williams had 10 flag pulls and Milania Farrow had seven. Anja Rosenthal Vincente scored a 45-yard rushing touchdown for Ward Melville (3-3-1).

Patchogue-Medford 19, Northport 12: Mackenzie Hughes completed 22 of 38 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns to lead Patchogue-Medford (6-0) in Suffolk I. Skyler Smith had 10 flag pulls and eight sacks. Camryn Young had 73 receiving yards, two touchdown catches and an interception. Paige McGowan had five catches for 97 yards and a touchdown. Angelina McGrath and Ella Melo each had an interception. Grace Gilmartin completed 20 of 28 passes for 203 yards and two touchdowns for Northport (2-3). Sarah Power had six catches for 72 yards and two touchdowns.
