‘I Have No Problem Throwing Elon Under the Bus, but I’ll Save It for When It’s Truly Deserved’
Last year in the wake of a Secret Service probe intoĀ Elon Muskās online remarks, entrepreneur Mark Cuban came forward to defend Muskās online antics, despite acknowledging them as ākind of insane.ā
What Happened: In an interview in 2024, Cuban discussed Muskās online conduct, which he described as ākind of insaneāĀ but not out of characterĀ for the Tesla chief.
TheĀ conversation took place in the wake of MuskāsĀ jest about pop iconĀ Taylor SwiftāsĀ endorsement of then-Vice President KamalaĀ Harris during the election.
Don’t Miss:
Cuban, who has had interactions with Musk in the past, defended the Tesla CEOās humorous style and said “that’s just the kind of banter you’d expect from him.”
He shared an instance of a text exchange with Musk, where he congratulated Musk on the birth of his child.
“We just texted back and forth a few times and he had just had a child, and I said: āCongrats on your 90th child. And his response was ā āMars needs people.’ Right, so that’s just Elon’s sense of humor, right? I have no problem throwing Elon under the bus, but I’ll save it for when it’s truly deserved,” he said.
Why It Matters: Muskās online behavior has previously led to serious consequences, including a $40 million settlementĀ with the Securities and ExchangeĀ Commission following a tweet about taking Tesla private.
More recently, a tweet speculatingĀ about a potential assassination attemptĀ on former President Donald TrumpĀ triggered a Secret Service investigation.
Cubanās defense of MuskāsĀ online conduct highlights the ongoingĀ debate about the role andĀ impact of social media inĀ the corporate world, especially whenĀ used by high-profile executives.
