Jenna Bush Hager’s Cousin Reveals On ‘Today’ His Friend Once Met Former President Bush While In His Underwear
Jenna Bush Hager and her cousins spilled several Bush family secrets when they guest hosted Today With Jenna & Friends this week, including one hilarious run-in their friend had with former President George W. Bush in the White House.
Bush Hager was joined by her cousins Wendy Stapleton and Sam Bush Leblond on the show, who had much to say about their beloved cousin and their time growing up together. But Leblond had an unbelievable story to share about one of the few times he and his friends spent the night at the White House during President Bush’s tenure.
“I met the president plenty of times in my underwear, but this isn’t about me,” he clarified. “I was so lucky to live in DC when you and your sister were in the White House and, on occasion, we would crash at the White House, and sometimes I would bring friends back with me.”
Bush Hager quickly clarified that this happened “only maybe once or twice.”
Leblond continued, “One of my friends Will, he’s getting a great shoutout here, we took your bedroom, you slept in Barbara’s. And George in the middle of the morning, very early in the morning, came barging in.”
Bush Hager added in her father’s defense, “Well, it was his house. Or America’s house!”
“It was his house,” Leblond admitted. “And my friend Will, to his horror, met him in his underwear for the first time. He got to see him at my wedding a couple years later to recount the amazing story… And I think George remembered. He doesn’t meet many people in his underwear.”
The Bush Family Secrets segment then promptly ended before the cousins could reveal too much on live television. “That was wonderful. That’s all they’re gonna give us, I wonder why,” Bush Hager said before throwing it to commercial.
Next up, Bush Hager’s husband, Henry Hager, will be joining her on the fourth hour of Today. She could barely contain herself when she announced the news last week on the show.
“I’m already blushing,” she said with a laugh. She admitted her husband was feeling “a little overwhelmed” by the opportunity.
“He’s prepping, he’s been texting with all of the producers. He has ideas, I don’t know any of them,” she said. “I think it’s gonna be slightly wild.”
Today with Jenna & Friends airs on weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.
