Road to Austin airport remains partially closed following major crash

The main road at Austin Bergstrom International Airport remained partially closed mid-afternoon Tuesday following a major vehicle crash that led to multiple hospitalizations.

Presidential Boulevard will be fully reopened in “a few more hours,” ABIA spokesperson Kimmy Hey told the American-Statesman at about 3:30 p.m. Drivers are encouraged to use Spirit of Texas Drive to access the airport.

First responders were called at about 1 p.m. to the intersection of State Highway 71 and Presidential Boulevard for a vehicle collision with multiple injuries, according to a post on X from Austin-Travis County EMS.

The agency said responders had treated one person for “critical, life-threatening injuries” and another for “potentially serious injuries.” Both were taken to St. David’s South Austin hospital. Another three patients were taken to Dell Seton Medical Center with minor injuries.
