Keanu Reeves says his knees can’t handle ‘John Wick 5’
Keanu Reeves is unsure about his future as John Wick.
The 60-year-old actor admitted in a recent interview with CBS News that his body might not be able to handle the physical toll of doing âJohn Wick 5.â
âYou can never say never â but my knees right now are saying, âYou canât do another John Wick,’â Reeves said.
âSo my heart [wants to], but I donât know if my knees can do it,â he added.
Reeves has starred as the iconic assassin in four films from 2014 to 2023. The franchise has grossed over $1 billion worldwide.
Heâs set to reprise the role in the 2025 spinoff âBallerinaâ starring Ana de Armas.
Reeves, whose character was killed at the end of the fourth film, previously discussed the possibility of a fifth âJohn Wickâ movie with Entertainment Weekly last year.
âI donât know, I guess Iâm going to have to lean on never say never,â he said.
âI mean, I wouldnât do a John Wick film without Chad Stahelski,â Reeves added. Stahelski, 56, has directed all four âJohn Wickâ movies.
âWeâd have to see what that looked like,â Reeves continued. âFor me, it feels really right that John Wick finds peace.â
After âJohn Wick 4â came out, producer Basil Iwanyk told Collider that Reeves asked to âdefinitivelyâ be killed off in the movie.
âAfter the second, third, and fourth movie, making these films is so exhausting and it destroys Keanu, physically and emotionally,â Iwanyk, 54, explained.
âBy the end, heâs always like, âI canât do this again,â and we agree with him,â Iwanyk added. âThe guy is just a shell of himself because he just goes off and goes for it.â
The producer also said about Reeves, âHe was like, âI want to be definitively killed at the end of this movie.â We were like, âYou know, weâll leave a 10 percent little opening.ââ
Iwanyk added to Collider that the future of the âJohn Wickâ franchise, aside from the âBallerinaâ movie, is still being figured out.
âWe all want another âJohn Wick.â We donât know what it looks like and when it will happen, but we love each other and we love this world,â he said. âItâs going to be all hands to try to figure it out. Have we figured it out? No. And if we canât figure it out, will there be one? No, of course not. No one is going to try to just jam it for the sake of jamming it.â
