Lafayette Police urge residents to stay off roads amid hazardous snowfall

Due to extremely hazardous road conditions caused by heavy snowfall, the Lafayette Police Department said it is urging residents to strictly avoid unnecessary travel

LPD said it is observing an increase in vehicle traffic despite the severe weather conditions. Police strongly advise staying indoors unless absolutely essential.

If travel is unavoidable, LPD said to exercise with extreme caution:

• Reduce speed significantly

• Maintain a safe following distance

• Avoid sudden braking or acceleration

• Be aware of black ice and other potential hazards

“We understand the novelty of this winter weather event,” LPD said in a prepared statement. “However, we urge you to prioritize your safety and enjoy the snow from the comfort of your home.”
