Authorities performed lifesaving efforts at the scene, which included CPR before transferring the driver to the hospital. The male later died at the hospital.

Officials, according to a preliminary investigation, believe excessive speed likely contributed to the accident.

The Des Moines Police Department’s traffic unit will complete a technical investigation of the crash. More information will be released as it becomes available.

Authorities did not release the name of the deceased in its release.
