Deadly flooding, deteriorated roads lead to school closures across Kentucky
KENTUCKY (FOX 56) — Saturday’s heavy rain and flooding have left many Kentucky roads inaccessible, with Kentucky under an emergency disaster declaration as of Sunday.
In response to the declaration, with the Kentucky River’s water levels continuing to rise, many school districts announced closures for Monday.
Among them, Pike County Schools posted on Facebook around 11 a.m. on Sunday that the district would be closed indefinitely in response to the emergency conditions.
“We pray for the safety of our students, families, staff, and community,” district leaders wrote. “We will assess the situation when possible and update the community. Praying for everyone’s safety.”
