Long Island HS sports roundup: Early-season highlights, scores
Matt Triolo scored his fifth goal with under two minutes left to put Glenn boys lacrosse ahead for good in its 12-11 win over Mattituck/Greenport/Southold in a Suffolk II opener Wednesday. Triolo also tallied four assists and netted his 200th career goal with his third score of the game. Cole Madden contributed three goals and three assists to the victory. Ethan Levy saved 15 shots and also recorded an assist.
Shane Psaltis scored five goals and added an assist for Mattituck/Greenport/Southold (2-1) and Andrew McKenzie made 14 saves.
Chaminade 12, Don Bosco (N.J.) 8: Quinn Ball won 18 of 26 faceoffs and Kiernan Walsh made 10 saves to lead Chaminade (3-1) in non-league. James Gillis had four goals and one assist, and John Balsamo added three goals and one assist.
Jericho 9, Wheatley/Carle Place 8: Luke Rush scored three goals and Jonathan Perlman made 16 saves to lead Jericho (3-0) in Nassau II. Josh Rubin added two goals and four assists. Aidan Butt had three goals and one assist and Vincent Psalidas made nine saves for Wheatley/Carle Place (2-2).

Whitman 5, Riverhead 4: Ryan Kaiser scored the winning goal with 50 seconds remaining in Whitman’s Suffolk I decision. Patrick McManus made 12 saves for Whitman (1-2). Ruairi McElhinney led Riverhead (1-2) with two goals.
BASEBALL
Bayport-Blue Point 1, Center Moriches 0: With two outs in the top of the seventh, Brendan Mattimore lined a single to centerfield, scoring Cooper Fuller from second base to lead Bayport-Blue Point (2-0) in Suffolk VII. Fuller also pitched a complete game, striking out seven, walking one and scattering three hits.

East Meadow 7, Calhoun 6: Daron Lake finished with two hits and three RBIs and drove in Trevor Smith on a walk-off fielder’s choice for East Meadow (2-0) in non-league. Matt Esslinger pitched 1 2⁄3 scoreless innings in relief for the win.
North Shore 10, Locust Valley 0: After missing his entire junior season with an injury, Ryan Lau hit a two-run homer in his first at-bat to kick off North Shore’s Conference A-II win. Brady Ayres fired a complete game, allowing one hit.
SOFTBALL
Floral Park 4, East Rockaway 2: Tiffany Matthews struck out 13 batters while only allowing two hits and two runs in seven innings to lead Floral Park (3-0) in Nassau VII.
East Islip 8, West Babylon 2: Cate Ropiak struck out three and allowed no earned runs in five innings as East Islip coach Jason McGowan earned his 300th win. Alyssa Corso struck out four batters in the final two innings and had an RBI double and scored two runs. Lexi Kneisel went 1-for-2 with a double and two runs for East Islip (2-0) in Suffolk IV.

Eastport-South Manor 14, Westhampton 13: Brooke Springsteen hit for the cycle, going 4-for-4 with three RBIs and four runs to lead Eastport-South Manor in a Suffolk V opener. Leah Smith hit the winning two-run double in the bottom of the sixth. Lee Pacello went 2-for-2 with two doubles, three runs and two RBIs. Hannah Jaccard went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run.
Locust Valley 6, Baldwin 5: Emma Tonner hit a go-ahead, two-run double in the fifth to lead Locust Valley (2-0) in Nassau VI. Outfielder Sienna Singh threw out the tying runner at the plate in the sixth with Gwen Velsor applying the tag.
FLAG FOOTBALL
Tuesday’s games
Whitman 22, Commack 20: Inside the final minute, Lila Bohan pulled a flag in the end zone for the winning safety to lead Whitman (1-1-1) in Suffolk I. Jazmynn Julien ran for two scores and threw a touchdown to Nevin Letren. Julien also caught a one-point conversion to tie the score and had an INT on defense. Abigail LaRegina had an interception and rushed for more than 80 yards. Sofia Vasselman threw two TD passes for Commack (2-1).
Long Beach 6, Locust Valley 0: Allyana Lucas caught an 18-yard TD pass from Simaiyah Wardana in double overtime to seal the Nassau B/C win for Long Beach (2-1).
BOYS TENNIS
Half Hollow Hills East 4, Ward Melville 3: Masood Khwaja and Sahil Patel won, 6-3, 6-7, 6-4, at third doubles in the clinching match for Half Hollow Hills East (5-0) in non-league.
GIRLS BADMINTON
MacArthur 4, Wheatley 3: Lauren Lane and Amaya Pasini defeated Hitahsa Kasliwal and Alexandria Yang in first doubles, 21-14, 21-9, to lead MacArthur (9-6) in Nassau IV.
Hempstead 5, Clarke 2: Sherlyn Gomez defeated Kysia Chan, 21-16, 21-19, at second singles for Hempstead in its Nassau IV opener.
