Long Island weather: a mix of sunny days, rainy days on tap this week
The week ahead will bring intermittent rain but more sunny days and temperatures “near normal,” according the National Weather Service.
Sunday will remain sunny with a high in the mid 40s and with brisk winds reaching to 21 m.p.h, said Jay Engle, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Upton.
Clouds will roll in Sunday night, and rain will begin Monday after about 8 a.m., he said, and wind speeds will increase to 30 m.p.h. at times.
“It should start to move out late Monday afternoon or early Monday evening,” Engle said.
Total rainfall should be in the range of a half to three-quarters of an inch.
The sun returns Tuesday, bringing a high of about 54. The winds will slow significantly. Tuesday evening will become cloudy, with temperatures dropping to near freezing as a “quick-moving weather system” moves in, Engle said.
There’s a 30% chance of rain starting in the early hours Wednesday after 2 a.m. and continuing into the early afternoon. If it comes, it’ll be a “cold, wet rain,” and “maybe even a few wet snowflakes,” Engle predicted.
Wednesday’s high is expected to be around 48, and overnight low will be right around 32.
Thursday is expected to be sunny, with a high near 50.
