Man, 44, facing rape charges after allegedly assaulting woman for at least 3 years

A Sioux Falls man is facing rape charges after reportedly assaulting a woman for several years, according to a Minnehaha County court document.

Kyle Oliver Lee Huff, 44, is charged with one count of second-degree rape by use of force, coercion or threats, one count of third-degree rape due to physical/mental incapacity and one count of fourth-degree rape without consent, according to court documents.

Officers were called to an apartment March 24 after receiving a call from the victim that Huff was “going crazy,” and that she “was afraid of him,” according to an affidavit in support of Huff’s arrest.

While speaking with the victim on scene, she also reported the man sexually assaults her “every other night,” according to the affidavit.

Another woman in the apartment said that while she knew Huff slept in the same bed as the victim, she was “unaware of any assaults” until March 21, according to the affidavit.

The second woman suggested the alleged victim move rooms, but Huff allegedly said, “If you sleep in another room, I will bring a pallet in and sleep with you,” according to the affidavit.

When the police attempted to contact the victim a second time, the call went to voicemail, according to the affidavit. Officers called the second woman, who reportedly asked if “charges would be filed” against Huff. Allegedly, the line disconnected.

Officers arrived at the apartment a second time for a wellbeing check on the victim, according to the affidavit. The woman claimed the victim was unavailable, but Huff allegedly let officers in the residence.

When asked to visit the law enforcement center for an interview, the victim informed police that she did not have any clothes or shoes, only the nightgown she was wearing when officers arrived at the apartment, according to the affidavit.

The victim also reported to officers that Huff was allegedly angry with her for previously calling 911, according to the affidavit.

During an interview with officers, the victim told officers the alleged assaults had began before 2021, when the pair moved to South Dakota, according to the affidavit. In a third visit to the residence, the second woman recanted her statement again and told officers she had witnessed the assaults.

The woman was arrested and is currently lodged in the Minnehaha County Jail on charges unrelated to the assaults, according to the affidavit.

Huff is currently being held in the Minnehaha County Jail on a $200,025 bond, according to the Minnehaha County Jail Inmate listing. He is set to appear for a preliminary hearing on May 12.
