Meet Jennifer, Rory and Phoebe

From Microsoft co-founder to family man!

Bill Gates and his ex-wife, Melinda Gates, welcomed three children during their time together — daughters Jennifer and Phoebe and son Rory.

The former couple called it quits in 2021 after 27 years of marriage and have since become grandparents.

Bill revealed in an April 2025 interview that he will leave “less than 1 percent” of his $101.2 billion fortune to his descendants.

“It’s not a dynasty,” he explained to podcaster Raj Shamani. “I wanna give them a chance to have their own earnings and success, be significant and not overshadowed.”

Jennifer Katharine Gates

Bill and Melinda tied the knot in 1994, starting their family two years later when daughter Jennifer arrived.

The exes’ eldest child started horse riding as a child and is a competitive show jumper.

Jennifer, who has both a degree in human biology from Stanford University and a master’s degree in public health from Columbia University, began her Mt. Sinai residency in 2024.

By that time, she was married to fellow equestrian Nayel Nassar.

The couple got engaged in 2020 and tied the knot the following October in Westchester, N.Y.

They have since welcomed two baby girls, with Leila and Mia arriving in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

Rory John Gates

Jennifer became a big sister in May 1999 when brother Rory arrived.

Bill and Melinda’s only son has primarily stayed out of the spotlight, although he did make headlines for attending a White House State Dinner with his mom in 2024.

He is currently pursuing a PhD at the Institute of World Politics, according to his LinkedIn profile, after graduating from the University of Chicago in 2022.

Phoebe Adele Gates

Bill and Melinda welcomed Phoebe in September 2002.

The duo’s youngest graduated from high school in 2021, getting her human biology degree from Stanford University three years later.

While documenting her 2024 commencement for Nylon, Phoebe confirmed her relationship with Paul McCartney’s grandson Arthur Donald.

The following year, she launched her “Burnouts” podcast and spoke about the sustainable shopping website she created, Phia.

Phoebe admitted in the premiere episode to having “such a desire to prove myself” and “so much insecurity” over being a “nepo baby” with “privilege.”

She previously showed an interest in fashion with a 2022 British Vogue internship.
