Member of a Wisconsin sheriff’s office dies after getting hit by a vehicle in Illinois, was walking along highway
(WFRV) – A member of a sheriff’s office in western Wisconsin reportedly died after he was hit by a vehicle while walking along a highway in Illinois.
According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, a Grant County Correctional Officer (Jailer) died on February 8 after he was hit by a vehicle. Officials say that Dylan Bellamy was walking along the highway near Mattoon, Illinois.
Bellamy reportedly joined the Grant County Sheriff’s Office in December of 2023 and was also a member of the Army National Guard. The release says he was in Illinois for his training weekend with his unit.

The incident is still under investigation according to authorities. There were no details on if the driver was arrested or citied.
The Grant County Sheriff said that Bellamy had a great future at the sheriff’s office.
