Molly Qerim makes rare comments about health battle in new post

ESPN personality Molly Qerim was candid about her experience with endometriosis in a rare public message on Instagram Tuesday night.

The “First Take” host, who acknowledged that March is Endometriosis Awareness Month, revealed she underwent surgery for endometriosis after a 12-year battle with the disease.

“I really hesitated on posting this, b/c I’m a very private person…but if I can help even 1 person…it’s worth it,” Qerim wrote. “Dr Kanayama, you are an answer to 12 years of prayer. THANK YOU. You are a miracle in my life, and more miracles to come. 🙏

“And for anyone dealing with a health scare right now, please don’t give up…keep advocating for yourself and know you can be fully restored, regardless of what the medical report says. Better days are ahead.”

Qerim included a photo with Dr. Masahide Kanayama of the New York Endometriosis Center, who performed her surgery.

Endometriosis is the growth of abnormal tissue located outside of the uterus that can cause pain, irregular periods and infertility, per the New York Endometriosis Center.

It affects over 10 million women in the United States alone, according to the New York Endometriosis Center.

Qerim also shared a screenshot of a message sent by Kanayama after the surgery.

“Surgery was super difficult and delicate, but God listened to your prayer, and I was supernaturally sustained with His wisdom and strength by God’s grace,” the note read.

“I have hundreds of pictures to show you and share info with you on Monday. Now my prayer is your smooth recovery! I really believe God himself has connected you to me to restore your precious life! Blessings!”

The ESPN host, who has long kept her personal life private, isn’t the only sports media figure to speak openly about her experience with Endometriosis.

Model Olivia Culpo, the wife of 49ers star Christian McCaffrey, previously shared that she underwent surgery for endometriosis in 2020. The couple announced this week they’re expecting their first child.

Qerim and former ESPN NBA analyst Jalen Rose were married for three years before they divorced in April 2021.
