WAYNESBORO – One person is dead following an early-morning fire Friday in Waynesboro, according to police.
The incident took place in the 200 block of Bookerdale Road.
Capt. Jamie Dunn of the Waynesboro Police Department said the fire was called in at 5:39 a.m. on Friday. Dunn said it involved a small structure and said it was initially reported that the fire was spreading to nearby trees.
Dunn said one person was found deceased at the scene.
“During the preliminary investigation, human remains were discovered inside the structure,” the Waynesboro Police Department said on its Facebook page.
