One-of-One Rally Red 1967 Chevrolet Corvette L88 Heads to Mecum Indy 2025 Auction
A singular example of American performance history is poised to cross the auction block at Mecum Indy 2025: a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette L88 Coupe, the only known model finished in Rally Red with a matching red interior.

Scheduled for sale on Saturday, May 17, the L88 represents the pinnacle of Corvette performance from the muscle car era. Only 20 examples of the L88 were produced for the 1967 model year, making it one of the most sought-after Corvettes ever built. What sets this car further apart is its one-of-one color combination and an extensive history of preservation and recognition within the collector car community.

Originally equipped with a 427-cubic-inch V8 rated at 430 horsepower—a conservative estimate given its true output exceeded 500 hp—the L88 was a track-focused machine intended for serious racers. Built with 12.5:1 compression, a high-lift camshaft, a 4-barrel carburetor, and the infamous Muncie M22 “Rock Crusher” 4-speed manual transmission, the L88 was Chevrolet’s way of quietly producing a factory race car.

This particular example, chassis 194377S115791, shows just under 12,000 miles and retains its original tank sticker. It has received multiple accolades over the decades, including Bloomington Gold certification (1994, 2014), four appearances in the Bloomington Gold Special Collection, and top honors from the National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS) including a Regional Performance Verification award and the coveted Duntov Mark of Excellence.
With previous ownership in the esteemed Norvell, Steinman Bros, and Rare Wheels collections, this L88 also earned a Chip’s Choice award at Corvettes at Carlisle, underscoring its rarity and desirability.
