Pfluger Elementary teacher resigns after dragging student by the arm
A first grade teacher at Pfluger Elementary School in the Hays school district has resigned after allegedly dragging a student by the arm Monday, according to district officials.
During dismissal, the teacher dragged a student by the arm from the school’s gym to the hallway outside of the gym, district spokesman Tim Savoy said in a statement.
Other teachers who witnessed the incident notified campus administrators, who contacted the human resources department, Savoy said. On Tuesday morning, the human resources department directed the teacher to report to the district’s administration offices instead of to the campus, and the teacher resigned, he said.
The district declined to release the teacher’s name or any other information about the incident. The teacher had been working at the district since October 2018.
“At no time, and under no circumstance, is it OK for an employee of our school district to treat a child in this manner,” Savoy said. “The actions of this teacher are completely unacceptable. Children are entrusted into our care by the thousands each day. We take that responsibility to heart and are deeply distressed by the incident that occurred Monday.”
The district reported the incident to the Texas Education Agency and to Child Protective Services, Savoy said.
