Police: Woman, 44, dies in crash while crossing Jerusalem Avenue in N. Merrick

A 44-year-old woman was killed after she was struck by a car while crossing the street in North Merrick on Monday, Nassau police said.

Around 10:42 p.m., the woman was crossing Jerusalem Avenue near West Drive when an eastbound 2015 Dodge Charger struck her. She suffered severe trauma and was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.

The victim was not immediately identified.

The 36-year-old driver of the Dodge remained at the scene.

An investigation is ongoing, police said.
